Martin Hummel

Martin Hummel was born in Freiburg im Breisgau into a musical family and had his musical training in Würzburg and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Kurt Widmer and Rene Jacobs. He further continued his musical study with Margreet Honig, Peter Schreier, Julia Hamari, Hans Hotter and others, embarking on a career of song recitals and concerts that has taken him to a number of European countries, to the United States and to Asia. He has taken part in first performances under leading conductors and has undertaken broadcasts and television engagements, in addition to his recordings for major record companies like Naxos, Harmonia Mundi, Musicaphon. He teaches at the University of Music in Würzburg.

Martin has performed numerous times with Magnificat, singing the Evangelist role in Schütz's Christmas Story in 1992, 2001 and again this season, the Resurrection Story in 1994 and 2004, for our reconstruction of the dedication service for St. Gertrude's Church Hamburg in 2008 and Schütz's Musikalische Exequien in 2009.
